Back Beat USA was formed by a group of seasoned musicians who have been playing together for over 12 years as a band performing rock, beach, surf and oldies. The demographic of their audience and the overwhelming response to their music from the 60's prompted the formation of the 60's tribute band, Back Beat USA. Over the years they have performed for audiences on Bourbon Street in New Orleans, the Golden Nugget Casino in Biloxi, MS, Carnival and Norwegian Cruise Lines, festivals throughout the Southeast and corporate events.
The band is made up of singer/songwriter Steve Tolliver (acoustic guitar and vocals). Steve was the 2014 TRMA Songwriter of the Year winner. Greg Sabol (bass guitar/vocals) formerly with the Australian 60's band The Mob and a two time Emmy Award winner, Steve Way (Drums) who is an inductee into the Iowa Rock n Roll Hall of Fame, Steve Turk (lead guitar/vocals), Dave Freeman (Keyboards) and David Cotton on Saxophone. David is one of the top sax players around.
In capturing the look and sound of the 60's, the band has concentrated on vocal harmonies and the fun, high energy dance songs to bring the experience to life. "We don't play songs we play memories", said lead singer Steve Tolliver "and the 60's were one of the best decades with many songs still recognizeable today and known by younger audiences". Starting with early 60's songs from artists like Sam Cook and Motown artists to the California surf era with music from the Beach Boys, Surfaris, Rivieras to the British invasion of groups like the Beatles, Rolling Stones, Dave Clark Five, Kinks and others and of course you can't do the 60's without the so called garage bands that sprang up during that time. The show wouldn't be complete without the popular Soul music hits of the era.
